Dear Topeka Public Schools Family,
This week is the Week of the Young Child and we’ve been having fun reading to our preschool and kindergarten students. Kindergarten orientation is occurring this week and we encourage parents to tour their elementary school to learn more about the amazing opportunities we offer. On April 18, starting at 5:00 p.m., parents can tour Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School, which is enrolling students for 2019-20. The enhanced curriculum will allow students from across the county to engage in project-based learning, coding, robotics and engineering. Students will also be exposed to scientific dissections in elementary and may enroll in band and other fine arts courses. The district school board meeting will be held there on Thursday, 6:30 p.m. and tours will begin at 5:00 p.m.
The Topeka Capital-Journal recently wrote about expanded dual-credit offerings in Topeka Public Schools. Over the last three years, we have increased college courses and students can now gain two years of college credit while attending our district. Many of the courses this year were funded by TPS, which reduces the burden of college on our families in significant ways. This has been an exciting year filled with accomplishments and we are even more excited about the 2019-20 school year as our legislators have agreed to a proposed funding formula that will better support schools. Please thank our legislators and our governor for their support to public education. Thank you for your support as we conclude the final months of the 2019-20 year.
