March Gladness

Dear Topeka Public Schools Family,

March is the month in which we celebrate fine arts, women’s history and we have been promoting March Gladness as we hold our celebration of learning events this month. We are all in a position to bring joy to those around us and we have been reinforcing that through random acts of kindness by simply sharing our joy with others. Students and staff have been carrying out various acts of generosity and kindness for each other, pep assemblies have been occurring to celebrate learning. Various staff members have been surprised with flowers as part of our March Gladness activities as well.

It is such a joy to walk into a classroom of happy kindergarteners. Pictured above, these students from State Street Elementary surely know the meaning of glad. It is with a sense of curiosity and hope that our students look toward their futures. During National Public Schools Week, we asked preschoolers what they wanted to be when they grow up. Click here to view the video of their answers.

This month we have also been supporting staff, students and the community through our mental health teams at Topeka High and at various other schools. More information about memorial services, resources and the suicide prevention campaign found in the Community News by clicking here. Tre'Veaughn's passing has impacted the entire school community. We will continue to support the Rice-McFarland family through this difficult time. We thank Pastor T.D. Hicks for offering his church for services and waiving all costs for the family. Please keep this family uplifted in your thoughts and prayers.
