Dear Topeka Public Schools Family,
Happy Father's Day this weekend to all of the fathers and to the many teachers and board members who serve as father figures. One of the special things about our school board is that the majority have had children graduate from TPS or they currently have children attending our schools. Pictured above is one of our board members, Dr. Scott Mickelsen with his son, Jack Mickelson, from the May graduation ceremony. Jack graduated from Topeka High as a top scholar and leader in the JROTC program. He is one of few scholars in Kansas accepted to the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School. TPS graduates are some of the most amazing scholars who will have an incredible impact on the world.
Scholarship events have continued throughout June with the Westar Evergy Scholarship event that awarded students from every high school. We congratulate our graduating seniors who collectively, between all high schools, earned over six million dollars in scholarships. This week the Topeka Public Schools Police Department camp began, where scholars are learning about safety in a variety of topics. Also, this week, students are learning about Juneteenth and its importance. More on Juneteenth can be found by clicking here.
Again, happy Father’s Day and thank you for supporting our summer programs.
Dr. Tiffany Anderson
Superintendent
