Our youngest scholars began their first day of school today, August 22, 2019.
Preschoolers and their families eagerly arrived at their schools this morning to begin their first full day of learning. Staff from each school made sure to greet their scholars with excitement and encouragement!
Shaner Early Learning Academy had a special morning planned for their scholars. Before the learning day began, Ryder and Skye from The Paw Patrol joined families at breakfast and play in the indoor playground.
"This morning families came in individually but left united as The Shaner Family! We enjoyed breakfast together, shared excitement and nervousness, and took lots of pictures! From finger painting to friendships it was definitely a fun day! And Shaner staff definitely got enough cardio exercise today to last a life time!" said principal of Shaner, LaManda Broyles.
Families gathered early outside of Sheldon Head Start, excitedly waiting for the learning day to begin. Guardians took photos of their scholars in front of the school's sign, and gave them words of encouragement about all the exciting things they would learn at school.
Jennifer Norton, principal at Sheldon Head Start, said, "Sheldon Preschool is off to a great start! The teachers and staff are glad the students are finally here! Our classes are filled with three and four year old's who are smiling, laughing and ready to learn."
Pine Ridge Prep staff made sure to greet their young scholars with excitement and cheering! Staff cheered on scholars and families with pom-poms as they entered the school. Guardians helped their scholars get settled into their classrooms as they began their day of learning with breakfast.
Principal of Pine Ridge Prep, Johnnie Sanders, said, "We rolled out the blue carpet, decorated our doors, cheered and celebrated our new students. We had lots of smiles, laughter and happy moments as the children waved goodbye to their parents, many for the very first time. We have forty-nine healthy and happy three and four years old's that we look forward to teaching, enriching, impacting and inspiring for the future."
The first day of school can be bittersweet and a little emotional, but this morning was full of joy and anticipation as preschoolers met with teachers and new friends to begin their journey of learning at Topeka Public Schools. We are so excited to have them as our youngest members of the TPS family, and cannot wait to see all that they will learn over the next year! Happy first day of school!
