COVID-19 Update - March 24, 2020

Dear TPS School Family,

Thank you for the engaging planning this week and a big thank you goes to our incredible Teaching and Learning team under the direction of Mrs. Wallace.  They are amazing and we are so fortunate to have such expertise in our district. Your positive energy is truly appreciated! We know how difficult this has been for everyone and we appreciate the time, energy and positive attitude our staff has continued to show through this health crisis. It is a privilege to serve with you.

Today in communicating with the Shawnee County Health Department, we were informed that our plans to allow students to pick up (by appointment) their devices as an essential instructional need could occur as the safe-at-home order was being prepared as a possibility. Today, the order was announced for thirty days.  We can continue to provide food and allow students this week to get devices in compliance with the health department guidelines.  That step will allow students to remain at home and still engage in school activities.  Devices are being distributed for students in elementary and in secondary schools this week. Starting on Monday, lunch will be distributed by our bus drivers as well. Please let your principal know if you have any questions.   Several schools were planning welcome back activities that would happen by a teacher driving past homes. Those cannot occur outdoors any longer at this time as organized activities.  We encourage your creative videos and calls to our students to let them know from a distance that we love and miss them as they return for their first day of school virtually.

The TPS Continuous Learning site has an active parent resource link.  We encourage you to explore our TPS Continuous Learning Site for ongoing updates such as the parent link, the SPED link and family resources. They are adding resources daily. We are sharing a letter with parents today and principals have scheduled appointments to allow them to issue devices in compliance with the CDC guidelines.  We have also copied our videos in Spanish thanks to Ms. Sharon Bedolla, the assistant principal at Avondale West. We will be giving our families a new video message on Wednesday night focused on instructional services as well.  Ms. Sharon Bedolla, the AP at AWest and Ms. Ann Gorsuch, the AP at Scott, will be contributing to a podcast and videos for parents in an ongoing fashion. We thank them both for taking this extra step for all of us and our parents.

Adversity allows us all to come together and truly show we are a team working for continuous improvement.   Have a great remainder of the week and follow our social media this week.
